Your donation helped us respond to 113,975 crisis calls, emails, chat, text and counselling sessions in 2016.
We offer free crisis and support services to our clients through our 24-hour crisis, ConnecTeen and 211 lines, and in-person professional counselling services. This would not be possible without our trained volunteers who work hard to ensure that Distress Centre remains open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
A safe ride home for a youth volunteer working a late shift on ConnecTeen.
Food, snacks and prizes for volunteers working on a long weekend or holiday. It’s essential that we recognize the volunteers who go above and beyond, working the lines instead of being with family and friends.
A holiday meal for the selfless volunteers who respond to the 24-hour crisis lines on Christmas Day, Thanksgiving or Easter weekend.
Learning materials for a group of 25 volunteers in training.
Ongoing professional development for one crisis counsellor.
Training and mentorship support for one crisis line volunteer for one year.
5 computers for the Call Centre and 211.
This service is the only one that provides direct funds to an individual, couple or family.
We conduct a needs assessment with the client. Once this is completed and all community resources have been utilized, the client meets with a designated 211/BNF counsellor to discuss a plan to achieve financial stability.
Bus passes to help a low-income client get to and from things like a Doctor’s appointment, job interview, or visit to the food bank.
A gift card to cover the cost of groceries for an individual for a month or, to cover unexpected medical costs.
Storage for a family’s belongings while they are living in a shelter and in the process of securing a permanent place to live.
Utility re-connection for a family whose gas was shut off during unseasonably cold weather.
Damage deposit for a new residence for a woman fleeing domestic violence.
Rent for a low income single mom and her children for one month while they are awaiting ongoing financial support.
We rely on your personal generosity to support Calgary individuals, couples and families in crisis.Donate
